November 2013 Joyful News

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

The cold weather has come upon us.  Please label your child’s winter wear, so if it becomes misplaced we can be sure to get it back to them.

The Usborne Cards for a Cause Fundraiser was a success!  We had 36% of our families participate in the fundraiser.  As a school we sold 107 boxes of cards.  Congratulations to the 7 students who received the Sunny Day book for selling 5 boxes or more.  They were Andreas Apostolou, Brady Sporre, Caleb Van Zee, Cody Phipps, Colton Schantzen, Ethan Lovas, and Gabe Kulseth.   In our drawing for the 2 day ~ 2 boxes, the winner was Grady Lewis and for the First Week ~ 4 boxes, it was Brady Sporre!  They each will receive a Phonics Reader book written by Phil Roxbee Cox.  We want to thank everyone who participated in the fundraiser.  It helps our school become a successful extension of your child’s education.

Individual and class pictures will be taken on November 4th and 5th during your child’s regular class time.

It is hard to believe that one third of the school year has almost passed.  Tuition for the second trimester is due on or before November 15th.

A conference sign-up sheet will be available soon.  Look for this sheet when you drop off your child at the beginning of class.  Conferences for Mrs. Smieja’s and Mrs. Schantzen’s MWF am classes will be on Monday, November 25th in the morning.  Mrs. Schantzen’s MWF pm class conferences will be held on Monday, November 25th in the afternoon.  Mrs. Rose’s & Mrs. Schantzen’s T-TH am classes will be on Tuesday, November 26th in the morning.  A conference will last 10 minutes for most students, except for students in the Extended Pre-Kindergarten Class.  They will be 15 minutes each.  Students may also attend.

The school will be closed on November 27th through the 29th in recognition of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

On November 14th & 15th we will be having our annual “Fun with Fathers” day at school.  If possible, dads or any other male figure in your child’s life should attend school this day to join us for our curriculum unit on The 5 Senses.  National Yo-Yo Master Dazzling Dave will be there to present us with an awesome show!  He will have Yo-Yos available after the show if you are interested in buying them.  See attached or visit his website www.dazlingdave.com for more exciting information.  There will also be a planned project for each student and their guest to craft together.  Please clear your calendars, so you can enjoy this opportunity with your child during their regular class time.  If you have any questions about this special day, please direct them to your teachers.

With the oncoming flu and cold season, we would like your help in reducing the spread of viruses by having your child wash their hands before and after school.  Also if you are aware your child is not feeling well, please keep them home.  These precautions will help us all stay healthy.
